The aesthetics of the gaze: a multifaceted subject

Surgeon: Dr Pierre Escalas

Institut Ophtalmologique Sourdille-Atlantique Nantes / Saint Herblain

Film presented at the French Society of Ophthalmology

The alteration of the eyes with age is the result of several transformations which concern:

- the position of the free edge of the eyelid, which may droop (ptosis)

- the amount of skin that increases due to sagging (dermatochalazis)

- the position of the eyebrows, which may droop (ptosis of the eyebrows)

- changes in fat volume, which may increase (bags) or decrease (dark circles)

Most of the time, these elements combine in variable proportions, which must lead to an adapted and specific surgical procedure for each patient.

This film will show you examples of these modifications to help you analyse your eyes and understand the surgical or medical procedures that can be proposed. There are indeed many different ways to perform cosmetic eyelid surgery $

Warning

The videos have been created and produced with great care to be as relevant as possible. Many topics are controversial and the options presented are rational personal choices, the result of an experiment involving several thousand interventions. Other ways of doing things are possible, they may have been proposed to you, so do not hesitate to ask for the reasons for the choices that were made.

This site is only a guide and does not replace the explanations given in a consultation, which are essential for understanding the analysis of the characteristics of your face, which is unique.

In the same way, the examples presented allow you to understand the principles of eye surgery, but they cannot necessarily be transposed to your particular situation. It is therefore not possible to guarantee the results you have seen on the different presentations.
