Dissection of the lower eyelid retractor complex

The retractor complex is a fibromuscular layer connecting the tarsus (posterior rigid part) to the sheath of the inferior rectus muscle. This complex plays an essential role in the stability of the lower eyelid.

Mastery of its anatomy and dissection is essential for the correction of certain eyelid malpositions (entropion, ectropion) and also for respecting eyelid statics in aesthetic eye surgery (blepharoplasty).

This video shows how to recognize and dissect this anatomical structure.
